CarMax, Inc., the nation’s largest retailer of used cars, has achieved a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s annual Corporate Equality Index. The CEI measures workplace equality for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) community. As part of this recognition, CarMax is also listed as an HRC “Best Place to Work for GLBT Equality” and in its annual “Buying for Equality” resource guide.

“CarMax is honored to receive this recognition from the Human Rights Campaign,” said CEO Tom Folliard. “Our commitment to excellence starts by embracing a diverse work force where inclusion and equality for everyone is valued.”

CarMax has a nondiscrimination policy in place for recruiting, hiring, training and promoting associates that includes sexual orientation and gender identity. In 2005, CarMax began offering health insurance coverage for domestic partners. All employees are required to complete training that covers the topic of sexual orientation.

The Corporate Equality Index rates companies on a scale from zero to 100 percent based on such criteria as diversity training, domestic partner benefits, other nondiscrimination policies and respectful advertising toward the GLBT community. More.
