A sale worth shopping

Monday at 2:45 p.m.

Eureka! I finally found a sale worth shopping. Or at least one my mother would love to shop. Chadwicks.com is offering 50 percent off everything on the site plus free shipping.

Holy cow, that's a sale worth checking out. The only hitch is that you have to buy at least two items. But with half off everything, that should be easy enough to swing. Pick up a sweater for mom, a purse for your sister and some earrings for yourself for the trouble.

Bluefly.com is also sharing a little holiday cheer with ten percent off every purchase, BlueNile.com is offering free overnight shipping on its jewelry and endless.com, amazon.com's site devoted exclusively to shoes and purses, is offering negative $5 overnight shipping, as in they pay you to ship something overnight.

  • Free shipping, is that all ya got?

    Monday at 12:10 p.m.

Free shipping, free shipping and free shipping -- thus far these are the only Cyber Monday specials I'm seeing. C'mon retailers! It's Cyber Monday, this might be a holiday invented by marketing-savvy executives, but a handful of specials is all it takes to make this a bonafide shopping extravaganza.

According to a website traffic monitor, as of 11 a.m. hot sites, like overstock.com and etoys.com had a traffic increase of 80 percent over a typical Monday. But free shipping just isn't enough of an incentive to keep up the pace.

Mega store, and retailer of the world, Walmart.com is one of the few sites offering web-only specials and discounts today and all week. Come on Target.com, overstock.com and smartbargains.com – free shipping is great, but give us a little more (and forget the minimum purchase requirement). At least shoebuy.com is offering free return shipping in addition to regular free shipping.

What about you, Richmond? Have you found any deals out there? If so, send them on; I'm desperate to waste the day. Email karri.peifer@corp.richmond.com

  • Take it to the Bank

    Monday at 10:38 a.m.

Note to all men (and women who are tired of seeing the men in their lives wearing ratty khakis.)

Today only, Jos. A. Bank is offering free shipping on every order. No minimum purchase required. Plus, they are having a killer sale on just about every thing in the catalog.

Their wrinkle resistant cotton twill pants (my personal favorite) are going for $29 when they are normally $60. They also have some $550 suits going for about $180.

Get papa some pants to go with his brand new bag.

  • Wanna cyber...shop?

    Monday at 10:30 a.m.
Thanksgiving is over and December is just a few days away; yes, there's no avoiding it, Christmastime and the shopping season are here.

The last four days have been filled with Holiday Specials, Door-buster Discounts and Early Bird Specials, but for me it's all been about today -- Cyber Monday, the day when online retailers attempt to lure me away from my office inbox with deep discounts and shipping specials. And it doesn't take much to do it.

Today is also the day that the average working stiff gets to knock out some significant holiday shopping on the boss' dime. According to a Boston-based consulting firm, it's estimated that 69 million workers will be online shopping today, which will cost their employers a half a billion dollars in lost productivity (ouch).

But enough about the boss man and his needs – today is Cyber Monday. It's time to shop.

We'll be updating throughout the day with discounts and specials from some of our favorite online retailers (of course, with an Excel spreadsheet ready and waiting to take over the screen if the boss walks by) and we'd love to hear your online shopping stories, too.

Who are you shopping for, which sites do you love and what kind of discounts are you finding? Send your Cyber Monday shopping stories to karri.peifer@corp.richmond.com. Don't worry, we'll only print your first name so the boss will never know it was you.
